Chiropractic Adjustments
An adjustment from a chiropractor can vary depending on technique and grade. The act of an adjustment is to apply a focal and controlled force to a joint that will open up that joint capsule.
A joint capsule refers to the surrounding tissues of muscle and tendon that surround the joint. Sometimes these tissues can become tight and adhesive, restricting the ability for that joint to function properly; which is otherwise known as immobility. The force applied to the joint will vary between 5 grades.
The most common grade to achieve a cavitation (the popping sensation) is grade 5, however the lower grades are often used and can achieve similar results (depending on the injury and patients history). Adjustments help improve mobility, reduce nerve tension and pain levels, and improve spinal function. It is a common misconception that chiropractors only treat the spine.
Here at 4 Life Chiropractic, our practitioners are trained to adjust throughout the body when required.

How Does it Work?
As preluded to above, the adjustment aims to open up a joint capsule, releasing pressure and thus improving its ability to move. This then allows the joint to increase it’s range of mobility. However, it is not just about adjusting a sore spot and it getting better. An assessment is performed in order to address areas of poor functioning throughout the spine and identify what tissues are being overloaded or overused as a result.
With a combination of manual mobilizations and soft tissue release modalities, our team at 4 Life Chiropractic will aim to improve whole spinal and bodily function to help relieve or prevent injury.
Chiropractic Adjustments
When is is Used?
It is important to understand that our chiropractors use spinal adjustments as one of many tools in order to relieve and prevent injury. Some of the common conditions that spinal adjustments are used for are:
-
Low and mid back pain
-
Neck pain and headaches
-
Postural deficiencies
-
Immobility issues
-
Peripheral neuropathies
-
Vertigo
-
Hand and foot tension/pain
The adjustments are often used to kick start the process of improving mobility and spinal function. The aim of our chiropractors is to then gradually introduce an active care program that helps maintain these improvements and help provide sustained relief from your aches and pains.
